Trustees and Alumni Trustees Take a Building Walkabout

On October 6, 2020, Trustees and Alumni Trustees visited the new Innovation Center & Library for a safe, social distanced walkabout.  They had an opportunity to talk with Lusardi Construction team members and see how the 2-D drawings they once saw on paper are taking shape in person.  What a treat to welcome back PRS Founding Trustee families Scott and Fiona Bechtler-Levin and Rick and Shari Sapp.

No Longer Just a Shell

Construction on the new Innovation Center & Library has really taken off.  No longer just a shell, the building is being outfitted with all the essentials it needs to be ready for our students this winter.  From electrical and security wiring to drywall installation, we continue to make good progress.

Walls & Windows Are Setting

So far, the campus closure hasn’t slowed work on the new Innovation Center and Library! The ingenious building method involves framing external walls and windows in giant molds on the ground, then filling them with reinforcements and concrete. Cranes and other special equipment will lift the walls and set them into place sometime in May (weather permitting). Like a barn raising, the shell of our new Innovation Center will rise from the ground in a matter hours or days!

Pacific Ridge School Breaks Ground on New Innovation Center & Library

A groundbreaking ceremony was held February 27th for the new Pacific Ridge School Innovation Center & Library in Carlsbad, CA.

Pacific Ridge School faculty and staff members, students, Architects Mosher Drew, general contractor Lusardi Construction Company and community members recently gathered to celebrate this $11.2 million project, which is the most recent of several campus building  projects the school has completed since opening in 2007.

The new Innovation Center and Library is designed to enhance and facilitate students’ exposure to new technologies and development of important skill sets for future careers.

“The Innovation Center & Library represents the way Pacific Ridge School has always operated, yet also creates many exciting opportunities for us,” said Head of School, Bob Ogle. “It is a center for collaboration, creativity, problem-solving, academic integration, growth, and community. It embodies the way we prepare our students for the future.”

The two-story building will span 14,510 square feet and will include a library and research center, robotics and makerspace, advanced biotech lab, technology and electronics lab, student support center including two testing rooms and offices, two indoor classrooms plus an additional outdoor classroom, multipurpose lecture space, teacher workroom, study areas and atrium lounge.

The building is designed to be a fluid, adaptable space that invites the exchange of ideas across disciplines.

Slated for completion in winter 2021, this project was funded by families and other donors in the

Pacific Ridge School community.

Board Approves Groundbreaking

It’s unanimous! On Wednesday, January 22, the Pacific Ridge School Board of Trustees approved construction of the new Innovation Center and Library. The community raised $10.5 million to meet the Board’s threshold for groundbreaking, which will take place in late February. After several years of planning and the generosity of more than 100 Pacific Ridge families, the project is now underway, with an expected completion time of January 2021.
